Thanksgiving is for celebrating harvest and blessing. Thanksgiving is a time to join with family and friends to feast and make traditions.

One tradition we have in our community is the Thanksgiving Day football game, which started years ago and is now held every Thanksgiving morning at Sparrows Point High.

Last week’s game held special meaning to the community and the Boemmel family. Brandon Boemmel sadly passed away in July of this year.

Brandon looked forward to and loved participating in the Thanksgiving Day game, and this year’s game was dedicated to him.

His parents provided each player a t-shirt to match their team. Donations were accepted for the Brandon Boemmel Scholarship fund that will be given each year to a male and female student at Sparrows Point High School.

This year’s game attracted enough players to form four teams and a large crowd gathered to watch.

Although the game was remembering a sad occasion, everyone involved enjoyed the event. The players had a great time playing and everyone had a great time watching.

The Black team was the winner of the game and they received the ceremonial Toilet Seat. There was also one presented to Brandon’s parents honoring his name.

The family would like to thank all those that attended and Creekside Graphics for making all the shirts. Brandon’s memory will forever live on and we look forward to this continued Thanksgiving tradition for years to come.
