The Kenwood boys soccer team twice fell behind visiting Patapsco on Friday in the second round of the Class 3A North Region playoffs, and each time the Bluebirds rallied to tie the game.

But the third time the Patriots took a one-goal lead, there was no opportunity for Kenwood to respond.

Patapsco scored a few minutes into the sudden-death overtime period to snag a 3-2 win and advance to the Region II championship game at C. Milton Wright.

Despite being the top seed with a 7-2-2 record, Kenwood was perhaps a slight underdog to fourth-seeded Patapsco (7-6).

The Bluebirds played in Baltimore County Division III, while the Patriots were in the slightly-stronger Division II.

After Patapsco took a 1-0 lead in the first half, Kenwood tied the score off of a free kick. The ball was lofted over the Patapsco wall, slipped from the Patriot keeper’s grasp and was headed into the goal.

The score remain tied at halftime. After Patapsco took a 2-1 lead, Kenwood brought the ball down the right side and tied the score with a nice shot to the far post.

In the Class 2A North Region playoffs, Eastern Tech (11-20 advanced to the regional finals with a 4-0 win over Digital Harbor.

The mavericks were to host Sparrows Point (8-4-1) on Tuesday at CCBC Essex after The Avenue News went to press.

A win would send Eastern tech into the state quarterfinals, where the eight remaining teams would be re-seeded according to regular-season records.

LaPlata (10-2), Lansdowne (9-1-1), Parkside (12-0), Liberty (10-1-1) and Oakdale (8-0-3) are among the teams that could be seeded ahead of the mavericks, if they survive their third-round games.
