The holiday season wouldn’t be complete without reading or watching “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” But why not take it a step further and see this holiday classic carved out of 2 million pounds of ice at the world famous frozen attraction ICE! at the Gaylord National Resort?

ICE! featuring Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! is open November 15 through December 30 at the Gaylord in National Harbor. Guests who walk through this winter wonderland-style Who-ville will see their favorite scenes from the story made entirely out of ice. Max the Dog, Cindy Lou and all the Whos will be chilling in their nine-degree venue.

You’ll see how the Grinch tries to steal Christmas from the Whos through interactive ice sculptures and displays. Experience favorite scenes from this Christmas special such as the Grinch lurking through the chimneys of the Who-ville homes, the Grinch’s heart growing three sizes after realizing Christmas means a little bit more and sitting down at the Whos’ feast where the Grinch carves the roast beast.

Each year for the ICE! exhibit, more than two million pounds of colorful ice are trucked in and hand-carved by 40 artisans from Harbin, China to create the unique ice sculptures on display. The ice for ICE! is created using a special recipe, and it arrives in approximately 36 truckloads over a three-week period, which is just as fast as the ice factory can produce it.

Because it is only 9 degrees inside, guests of all ages are provided with long parkas to wear to help stay warm while experiencing the exhibit. The parkas come in especially handy while sliding down the two-story ice slides. Be sure to have a photographer handy at the bottom to catch your crew on the way down.

In addition to the scenes from the Grinch, which was created in 1957, guests can also view live ice carving demonstrations by the master artisans and the grand finale of ICE! ⎯ a stunning crystal clear ice sculpture scene of the Nativity.
