I want to thank the citizens of the 6th District for giving me another four years as your state representative. I am very humbled to be re-elected. I promise that I will work hard and fight for this District.
My slogan was promises made and promises kept. I promised to repeal the Rain Tax and it was repealed. I promised to create safer schools and I did that when I was able to get BCPS to implement ALICE which stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter, and evacuate in the event that an active assailant would get inside our school buildings. I promised to help revitalize our older neighborhoods and I was able to pass my bill, which will create revitalization districts where home owners would receive a property tax credit for five years if substantial improvements are made to their properties without an increase to their property tax bill. I also promised not to raise taxes and create jobs. We have not raised any taxes in the four years down in Annapolis and we have seen job creation over the last four years with jobs at Amazon and Tradepoint Atlantic.
I was extremely happy that Gov. Larry Hogan was re-elected for another four years as more work needs to be completed for our district. I want to congratulate my colleagues Sen. John Salling; Delegates Ric Metzgar and Robin Grammer; and Councilman Todd Crandell on their re-elections. I also want to congratulate John Olszewski, Jr. on becoming our new County Executive. Since he is from the 6th District, I look forward to working with the new County Executive to improving our area.
Over the next four years, we need to continue to focus on fighting crime, stopping the opioid epidemic and improving our neighborhoods. My main goal for this session is to introduce legislation to hold all slum landlords in our district and the county accountable for their properties.
With the re-election of Gov. Hogan, I look forward to working with him on drawing fair and balanced federal and state districts in 2020. In addition, I will continue to fight against any new taxes and will fight to protect gun rights.
Right now, let’s enjoy Thanksgiving, Christmas and the rest of the holiday season.
