To the Editor,
Delegate Ric Metzgar (R-6) will host the Annual Pause for the Pledge on Flag Day, June 14th 6PM at Trinity Temple Interfaith Church 914 Essex Avenue off North Marlyn Avenue in Essex.
Everyone is asked to arrive early and bring lawn chairs and bring bottled water.
The community is invited to attend and recite the Pledge of Allegiance at promptly 7PM. This is a community event and not a political event and the public is invited to attend and participate in the program which is the only Pause for the Pledge Ceremony in Baltimore County and one of only two Pause for the Pledge Ceremonies in the State of Maryland.
The Pause for the Pledge was started in 1980 at the Flag House in Baltimore. Americans across the nation are encouraged to stop what they are doing and recite the Pledge of Allegiance at 7PM.
The Pause for the Pledge in Essex was started by the late Alfred E. “Al” Clasing, Jr. in the 1980s at Trinity Temple Church which has the largest American Flag in Essex.
In 2016, a new 20’ X 30’ American Flag was dedicated which was purchased from donations from the community. This year a brand new flag will be dedicated on Flag Day.
Delegate Metzgar is a member of the House Veterans Caucus and would like to continue the tradition in honor of Mr. Clasing who worked tirelessly for veterans and the preservation of the Back River Neck Peninsula Community. Mr. Clasing was a World War II Navy Veteran who passed away on December 16, 2015 from kidney failure at the age of 90.
Pastor James H. Lane, Pastor of Trinity Temple, will lead the Invocation with veteran groups and Scouts participating in the ceremony with patriotic music.
Bring the whole family, lawn chairs, water bottles and enjoy this free Patriotic Ceremony. For more information please call Delegate Metzgar’s District Office at 410-622-5323.
