ROSEDALE—Dr. Akram A. Salihi, a long time pioneer pediatrician in Rosedale and White Marsh has over 50 years of experience in private practice finally retired from his very busy Pediatric practice.

Dr. Salihi has decided to retire due to his old age and the coronavirus pandemic and has entrusted his patients to Dr. Melanie M. Garcia of Kiddie Health Pediatrics.

Dr. Melanie M. Garcia earned her medical degree at a young age of 23 at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. She did her pediatric residency training at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City and The Children’s Hospital at St. Joseph in Paterson, New Jersey.

She then became the chief pediatrician at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield at the Eastern shore of Maryland. In 2007, Dr. Melanie Garcia and her husband Larry Garcia, a Healthcare IT Consultant by profession, moved to Baltimore and started Kiddie Health Pediatrics (KHP).

They then rented out an office space in Rossville Professional Center in Rosedale with just two examination rooms. In 2014, they purchased a facility in the same building on the second floor (Suite #202) with four examination rooms. Then, in January 2020, Dr. Garcia expanded with the purchased of another facility next to her clinic (Suite #201) with additional four examination rooms , which were previously owned by another Pediatrician, Dr. Hadeel Naqib who recently retired. Dr. Garcia now has a total of eight examination rooms to handle the volume of patients to meet the needs of Rosedale, White Marsh and Essex families.

In July 2020, in spite of the ongoing pandemic, Kiddie Health Pediatrics finalized the acquisition of Dr. Akram Salihi’s pediatric practice to include bringing in a Pediatrics Nurse Practitioner, Megan Kretzschmar to help with Dr. Garcia’s additional patients.

Megan Kretzschmar, MSN, RN, CRNP graduated BS Biochemistry at the University of Maryland, College Park. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Pediatrics Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) at Boston College School of Nursing. She worked at Children’s National Health System in Washington, DC.
