The Society for Science and the Public recently announced that Sienna Fink, Grade 9 student at Eastern Tech (Allied Health), was named one of 30 finalists for the this year’s Broadcom Masters science fairs competitions nationwide. Broadcast Masters is sanctioned by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

As a finalist, Sienna will represent Eastern Tech in a trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in Broadcom Masters Finalist Week, from October 28-November 1. Sienna will present her project, “When Your Christmas Tree Gets Drier, It Increases the Chance of Fire” at the National Geographic Society to judges and the public, and she will participate in team science and engineering challenges.

During the intense, hands-on activities, students will be evaluated on their skills in critical thinking and problem solving, as well as their ability to communicate their ideas effectively to judges and their teammates. Students will compete for over $100,000 in prizes. In congratulating Sienna on this achievement, Principal C. Michelle Anderson said, “Sienna, you truly represent the innovative, inquiring spirit of the students who attend Eastern Tech. The entire student body and administration support you in the final round of this national competition.”
