A homicide incident labeled as “suspicious” has fostered the attention of dozens of local residents.
A few weeks ago — Nov. 8 to be exact — Baltimore County police officers responded to the intersection of North Taylor Avenue and Eastern Boulevard in Essex for a reported cardiac arrest.
Upon arrival, as officers approached the 400 block of Eastern Boulevard, they found a man “bloodied and unresponsive.” Medics then transported the male victim to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased, authorities said.
An autopsy later determined 67-year-old Michael Abey had been fatally shot multiple times, according to police. Abey was reportedly homeless.
Local residents recently gathered for a vigil near the corner where Abey was murdered.
The police solicits anyone who may know the person(s) who committed this crime to call detectives at 410-307-2020. Information may also be provided anonymously through Metro Crime Stoppers Of Maryland or the Baltimore County iWATCH program.
In the latest news, a double shooting was reported in nearby Middle River, according to police.
BCPD detectives are investigating the shooting, which happened around 7:25 p.m. on the night of Nov. 21, police said.
After responding to Chelmsford Court to investigate a report of shots fired, officers identified the two gunshot victims who have been taken to area hospitals.
According to officials, the victims' injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.
State Police investigating fatal crash on I-95 In White Marsh
WHITE MARSH — Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred over the weekend on a major highway running through White Marsh, authorities announced on Nov. 19.
At about 7:20 a.m. last Saturday, troopers from the Maryland State Police JFK Memorial Highway Barrack responded to an incident that occurred on I-95 South in White Marsh for a report of a pedestrian struck on the roadway, officials said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a tractor trailer was parked on the right shoulder of the highway, authorities said.
The pedestrian, whom police have identified as Joseph Russell Thomas II, 52, of New York, was wearing a fluorescent vest and was attempting to assist another truck driver with connecting his tractor-trailer to his truck, according to police.
At the same time, a 2007 BMW 328i crossed the solid white line, struck the tractor-trailer and Thomas, officials confirmed.
The victim was later transported by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Southeast Baltimore where he was pronounced deceased. A portion of I-95 southbound was closed for about three hours following the crash, police said.
Authorities have not released the identity of the driver involved in the crash, which remains under investigation.
White Marsh house fire results in casualty
A severe house fire in the White Marsh area has left one person dead and another person displaced, according to Baltimore County Fire Department (BCFD) officials.
Early on the morning of Nov. 20, firefighters from the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to a residence on Wolf Trap Court after being alerted about a house fire.
A second alarm was dispatched as the fire spread to two adjoining homes, officials said. According to WMVFC, Ambulance 203, Canteen 20 and Rehab 20 responded to provide assistance to first responders on the scene. Engine 202 was on the scene of the incident for little more than three hours, according to officials.
One adult female was discovered in the house where the fire started; after she was taken from the residence and placed in medical care, she was pronounced dead. Another person was displaced from another unit but suffered no injuries, reports say.
The fatal fire caused all three homes to sustain smoke, water and fire damage. Of the three residences affected, one was vacant and the other two were occupied at the time of the incident, according to reports.
BCFD has not identified the victim and the cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to authorities.
