ESSEX — Members of the Baltimore County Fire and Police Department honored the life of EMS Lt. Melissa Schuler on Thursdy, November 19 at Connelly Funeral Home of Essex. Schuler worked in the department for 10 years where she served in the Middle River, Perry Hall, Dundalk, and several other precincts.

She was found unexpectedly in her Middle River home Thursday night-she was 39 years old.

To adhere to social distancing protocols, many officers stood at attention outside the funeral home to listen to the service through loudspeakers. Close family members and friends were able to be inside the funeral home for the service

Stories were shared during the service of Schuler’s passion for helping others and never fearing to step in the line of danger to help a person in need-like the time she helped innocent people take cover when a gunman entered a Toys R Us while she was off duty.
