ROSEDALE—A man reportedly armed with a knife and blades was shot after a confrontation with police in Rosedale on Thursday.

The suspect was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and treated for a shoulder injury. The suspect was conscious and alert, according to a Baltimore County Police statement.

The suspect has been identified  as Michael Fink, 36, of the 7200 block of Holabird Avenue. He has been charged on a warrant with one count of second-degree assault.

Fink is currently in Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in stable condition.

The officer involved has been identified as Police Officer First Class B. Brown, who has two years and two months of service in the Operations Bureau.

He is currently on administrative leave per policy. An internal investigation is also being conducted.

Police responded to a call at around 2:24 on Thursday afternoon in the area of Philadelphia Road and Chesaco Avenue in Rosedale after a witness called 911 and reported a man armed with a knife and blades was cutting branches from trees and throwing the branches into the street.

The suspect was also reportedly waving the blades around.

While still en route, police received additional information that the suspect was in the middle of Philadelphia Road swinging a long chain.

Police located the suspect on Spring Avenue near Philadelphia Road. One officer exited his patrol vehicle and ordered the suspect to sit down.

The suspect reportedly ignored commands and began running at the officer, who ordered the suspect to stop.

The officer began to move backwards but the suspect continued to advanced on him, at which time the officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect in the upper body.

The suspect fled but was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect was initially dropped off at a local hospital for a mental health evaluation but never went inside.

He used public transportation to respond to the Rosedale area, where the witness observed him and called 911. Several weapons were recovered at the scene.

Police recovered two knives, a silver chain and a can of pepper spray from the crime scene. The investigation is on-going.
