BALTIMORE COUNTY—The Age Friendly Baltimore County Initiative is seeking community input on how to make the county a better place for senior citizens.

Anyone who is 18 or older is encouraged to sign up for an online meeting where they can voice their suggestions. The meeting that will take place on Wednesday, August 13 from 11 to 11:45 a.m. To access the meeting, email Dona Neuworth at dneuworth@baltimorecountymd.gov by Thursday, August 6.

What Does Age-Friendly Mean?

It is a community that enables people of all ages and abilities to actively participate in community activities and treats people with respect, regardless of age.

It is a place—city, town, county, state—that makes it easy for older people to stay connected to people that are important to them and their communities.

It helps people stay healthy and active regardless of their abilities and age, and provides appropriate support to those who can no longer look after themselves.

There are eight domains that AARP, based on the WHO’s work, suggests we work on:

Outdoor spaces

Social participation

Respect and social inclusion

Civic participation and employment

Communications and information

Community and health services
