BALTIMORE COUNTY — On Tuesday October 1, 2019 at 7 p.m. all boys between the ages 11 and 17 and their parents who are interested in joining Boy Scout Troop 745 are invited to a special presentation on the Battle of North Point by Boy Scout Troop 745 at the Essex United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 524 Maryland Avenue off Woodward Drive in Essex.

Costume re-enactors will discuss the history, tactics, weapons and the role of civilians during this important battle in Baltimore County. Artifacts from the Battle of North Point will also be on display. The Battle of North Point, which took place near where we live, is often overshadowed by the British Bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. The War of 1812 is often called the “Second War of American Independence”. The Baltimore County Sheriff Office wears a Battle of North Point Patch on its uniform to commemorate the battle.

This interactive program has information and knowledge on local history potential Scouts will not learn in school and can be applied to some of the requirements for Citizenship In the Community, Citizenship In the Nation, and American Heritage Merit Badges. Boys who join Troop 745 have an opportunity to camp at Todd’s Inheritance and earn the prestigious Boy Scouts of America National Historic Trails Award by hiking the Battle of North Point Trail and performing a service project.

Boy Scout Troop 745 was founded in 1952 and has a long and proud history of almost 100 Eagle Scouts. Troop 745 has an active camping program. Cabin camping in the winter and tent camping the rest of the year. In addition to camping, hiking, cooking, and enjoying the outdoors, Troop 745 teaches citizenship, valuable life skills, and community service. Boy Scouts in Troop 745 live in Essex, Middle River, Dundalk, and Rosedale.

Background Checks are performed on all adult leaders. Safety and two deep leadership are always practiced during events and activities. Parents are always welcome to stop by Scout meetings and camping trips. A boy does not have to be a Cub Scout to join Boy Scouts.

Meetings are held on Tuesday Evenings from 7:00 to 8:30PM all year long. This is one opportunity no boy should want to miss to cash in on the fun. After the presentation. refreshments will be served and there will be an opportunity to talk to the adult leaders and interact with the current Boy Scouts.
