Jerry's Children's Fund seeks donations

Jerry Bathory of Edgemere, pictured with granddaughter Katelyn Singleton, is seeking donations of toys, winter hats, gloves, gift cards and funds to support his Jerry’s Children’s Fund Christmas gift drive. For eight years, Bathory has single-handedly provided Christmas presents to hundreds of area children in need; he expects to distribute gifts to more than 175 children this year. “I know we can’t help every child, but we can do our best,” he explained. For more information, or to donate, contact Jerry Bathory at 443-895-8137 or mail to Jerry Bathory, 2913 Delmar Ave., Edgemere, MD 21219.

From Jerry Bathory:

This will be our eleventh year of helping children in our area. Still families are having a tough time making ends meet. You and I can make a difference to make children happier for Christmas this year.

The thought of children going without anything should make us sad. I know we can’t help every child, but we can do our best. The giving people of Dundalk, Edgemere, Essex and other areas have been great in the past and should be proud that they have helped these kids.

Whether you realize it or not, every one of you have been an important part of this fund along the way. The little things don’t mean anything — they mean everything.

Last year was our best ever.

We took care of about 175 children and their families to have a brighter and warmer Christmas Day. We helped some local schools and also some local trusted organizations and many local families who needed our help. We receive more donations than we have ever gotten, so we could give each child around 20 gifts. I’ll be working with the guidance counselors and social workers to find out who the neediest children are and find out their exact needs. I have to be finished by the first week in December to deliver to the schools.

I buy most of the common needs all year long, but always need more of the new toys when I get the lists from the schools. So please don’t hesitate!

You can call me at 443-895-8137 for pick up or delivery.
