ESSEX — The Sussex Community Association hosted a visit from the Easter Bunny Saturday, setting up a festive backdrop for family photos and then driving through the nearby neighborhoods handing out goodie bags filled with holiday treats.

Now, it was a busy day for the Easter Bunny, so his visit quick. Luckily we have Mr. Sam Weaver, Maryland Waterways founder and — for Saturday afternoon — devoted character actor and costumed bunny stand-in.

It was sunny in the parking lot at Taylor and Virginia Ave, and not too warm — although it was hot enough beneath all that white fur, Weaver reported.

After an afternoon posing of pics, the Easter Bunny drove through the neighborhood while the Sussex Community Association board members and others passed out goodie bags, giving out 116 in all.

“The excitement on the kids’ faces as Easter Bunny drove through the community and they each received their goodie bag was so rewarding,” Leah Biddinger, association president, wrote in a Facebook post to the community group. “This is what community is about! This is why we do what we do!”
