Sunday was the last day for the 3rd annual holiday train garden at Maranatha Chapel in Bowleys Quarters. Open houses to view the train garden were held every weekend from Nov. 26 into the new year.

The 8- by 24-foot, free holiday train garden at Maranatha Chapel includes HO scale trains traveling through Christmas villages, a carnival and other scenic locations, including Carroll Island Shopping Center. Surrounding the train garden is a display of Christmas trees, which display ornaments representing Biblical themes that span from Genesis to Revelation.

Families throughout the season were also treated to complimentary hot chocolate and cookies, and children could make crafts and participate in a scavenger hunt to identify parts of the train garden.

“This project is a labor of love from members of the Maranatha Chapel congregation,’’ Maranatha Chapel pastor Todd Jerscheid said in a letter to the community. “We appreciate the time and effort of Dave and Janet Holloman, John and Pat Bonner, Lonnie Rash, Dave Walter, Shirley Robinson and Johnny Adams, who all worked together to make the display possible.”

Plans for next year include more animations in the train garden and two more Christmas Trees to recognize and appreciate veterans and first responders. For more information on Maranatha Chapel visit
