ESSEX — Week of Oct. 24 to Oct. 30

Chesapeake High School

Conference: 1-2

Overall: 3-5

Last week’s results:

Perry Hall 29, Chesapeake 6

Top players of the week:

Marcel Battle — Four catches for 60 yards.

Patrick Byers — Two catches for 55 yards.

Laron Talley — Three catches for 45 yards.

Jaylin Willis — Four tackles and one interception.

Coach Chris Acab’s comments:

I thought Perry hall did a great job on both sides of the ball. You have to give credit to Perry Hall’s players and coaching staff for executing the team’s game plan. Defensively, we had our moments. We forced a few turnovers, but overall our tackling was poor and we played very uncharacteristically undisciplined. Offensively, we couldn’t establish a rhythm and we turned the ball over at the worst times. But I am very proud of how the team continued to fight on both sides of the ball despite the score; this team a year ago wouldn’t have. I am proud of how the players have developed and continue to grow as young men. As an organization, we will do better. Coaches will coach better, and players will play better, learn from this game and move forward.

We play Fairmont Heights this upcoming Friday. We are looking forward to the opportunity to bounce back from our loss to Perry Hall.

Chesapeake at Fairmont Heights for the first-round playoff game at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5.

Kenwood High School

Conference: 2-0

Overall: 5-4

Last week’s results:

Kenwood 36, Towson 0

Coach Derrick Krumholtz’s comments:

Despite the odd week with the unforeseen school closure leading to no practice on Friday and a Saturday game, the players remained focused and took care of business. The defense deserves all the credit, holding Towson scoreless for the duration of the game. The offensive line paved the way for another outstanding ground game as we rushed for 270 yards on the day. The win secured the No. 4 seed in 3A/4A North Region and the first home playoff game in school history, which we look to win on Friday night.

Kenwood hosts Catonsville for the first-round playoff game at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5.
